ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Second-seeded Syracuse (13-2) continues its quest for a 12th NCAA championship on Sunday, May 17 when it meets Big Ten champion Johns Hopkins (10-6) at noon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in the NCAA quarterfinals. The game marks the 13th postseason meeting between the Orange and Blue Jays. Syracuse defeated Hopkins at the Carrie Dome back in March, 13-10.
The Orange advanced to the quarterfinals for the 31st time in school history with a 20-8 victory versus Marist at the Carrier Dome in the tournament's opening round. Johns Hopkins moved on with a 19-7 triumph over No. 7 seed Virginia in Charlottesville.
The site's other quarterfinal features No. 3 seed North Carolina against No. 6 seed Maryland at 2:30 p.m.
WINNING TRADITIONS
The Orange and Blue Jays are the two winningest programs in Division I lacrosse. They boast a combined record of 1,824-645-31 (.736) in 2,500 total games.
The Orange and Blue Jays are the only two Division I programs with more than 800 wins. Hopkins is the first school with more than 900 victories and enters Sunday's game with 954 wins since it began playing the sport in 1883. Syracuse is second on that list with 870 all-time wins dating back to 1916.
LORDS OF THE RING
SU and Hopkins have combined to win nearly half (20) of the 44 NCAA championships since men's lacrosse became an NCAA-sponsored sport in 1971. The Orange has an NCAA-record 11 titles. Hopkins has nine.Â
Overall, the Blue Jays have appeared in a record 18 NCAA title games and is 9-9 in those contests. Syracuse is second with 17 championship game appearances. The Orange is 11-6 in its championship tilts.

SCOUTING HOPKINS
The Blue Jays claimed the inaugural Big Ten Conference title and are winners of their last six games.
Ryan Brown leads the Hopkins offense. He is fourth in the country in goals (58) and second in goals per game (3.63). Brown scored a career-high eight goals in last year's game against SU at Homewood Field. Brown is flanked by a pair of Stanwicks on attack. Older brother, Wells, leads the club in assists (41) and has 63 points (22 goals, 41 assists). Freshman, Shack Stanwick, has 23 goals and 21 assists.
Midfielder Holden Cattoni is one of five Hopkins players with at least 20 goals. He's scored 11 of them on extra-man.
Goalie Eric Schneider has 133 saves and a 9.93 goals-against average. Schneider made 14 saves in the team's first-round NCAA Tournament win last weekend at Virginia.
Hopkins grad Dave Pietramala is 191-78 overall as a head coach, including a 168-61 record at his alma mater. Pietramala is fourth among active Division I coaches with a .710 winning percentage. He guided the Blue Jays to national championships in 2005 and 2007 and has the reached the NCAA title game four times since taking over the Blue Jays in 2001.
THE HOPKINS SERIES
The Blue Jays own a 27-25-1 advantage in the all-time series. Hopkins dominated the rivalry's early years, winning 12 of the first 15 meetings. The Orange has been victorious in eight of the last nine.
Hopkins is SU's most familiar postseason foe, with the Orange holding an 8-4 advantage in NCAA contests, including a 2-0 edge in quarterfinal games. Five postseason meetings have come with the NCAA championship on the line (1983, 1984, 1985, 1989, 2008). SU is 3-2 against the Blue Jays in title tilts, defeating Hopkins to win NCAA championships in 1983, 1989 and 2008.Â
