Fourteen of 19 intercollegiate athletics teams recorded a four-year APR score above the national average
Syracuse University's intercollegiate athletics teams are achieving success in the classroom. Fourteen of Syracuse 19 intercollegiate athletics teams recorded a four-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) that ranked higher than the national average in their respective sport. The Orange women's basketball team recorded the highest APR in the Atlantic Coast Conference and 14 Syracuse teams rank in the top half of the ACC.
For the 2013-14 academic year APR, eight Syracuse teams recorded a perfect 1,000, including men's and women's basketball, men's cross country, indoor & outdoor track and field, women's ice hockey, women's soccer and women's tennis, while 10 Orange teams increased their yearly APR score from the previous year.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Syracuse's student-athlete population, which includes more than 550 student-athletes, recorded a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.02 during the 2014-15 academic year.
During the Fall 2014 semester, 324 student-athletes (54%) achieved a 3.0 or better during the fall, including 134 (22%) student-athletes who achieved a 3.5 or higher. In the Spring of 2015, the numbers increase to 326 student-athletes with a 3.0 or higher, including 162 who posted a GPA of 3.5 or better.
Earlier this month, more than 100 Syracuse student-athletes donned a cap and gown to put the exclamation point on their Orange career at the University's 162nd Commencement in the Carrier Dome.
