
Rice Named to Capital One Academic All-America First Team

Attackman is the second first-team Academic All-American in team history
AUSTIN, Texas – Kevin Rice continues to epitomize what it means to be a student-athlete at Syracuse University.

The star attackman became the second player in the history of the Orange men's lacrosse program to earn first-team national Academic All-America honors when he was selected to the Capital One Academic All-America At-Large First Team on Thursday, June 11.

Rice joins Mike Leveille (2008) as the only first-team Capital One Academic All-Americans in team history. A second-team selection in 2014, Rice is the second Orange player earn multiple Capital One Academic All-America awards. John Galloway was a two-time, second-team honoree in 2010 and 2011.

Rice started all 16 games for the Orange in 2015 and led the team in points (84) and assists (48). The ACC Offensive Player of the Year and finalist for the Tewaaraton Award as the national player of the year, Rice had nine five-point games this past season and recorded a career-high nine points (4 goals, 5 assists) in SU's first-round NCAA Tournament victory against Marist. Rice closed his career seventh on Syracuse's career assists ledger (126) and 12th on the program's all-time scoring list with 222 points (96 goals, 126 assists).

Off the field, Rice earned a bachelor's degree in history and plans to attend law school at Wake Forest University this fall. He was named to the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll (min. 3.0 GPA) every semester and earned a place on the 2014 All-ACC Academic Team. In 2013, Rice won the NCAA's Elite 89 Award for maintaining the highest GPA of any student-athlete among the four national semifinalists (Syracuse, Cornell, Duke, Denver).

The Capital One Academic All-America program is administered by CoSIDA. To be eligible, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve, achieve sophomore standing at their current school, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.3 and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Participants in fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling are eligible for the men's at-large program.
