Johnson and Doane honored for the first time in their careers
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Riley Johnson and freshman Maddi Doane of the 2015 Syracuse University softball team earned 2015 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Softball Team accolades, the conference announced on Tuesday morning. It marked the second straight season Syracuse had two student-athletes on the academic team.
Â
Syracuse was one of nine schools to have multiple student-athletes recognized for their academic achievements. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 cumulative GPA for the previous semester and for their entire academic career.
Â
Johnson completed her degree in communications and rhetorical studies in just three years and enters graduate school this summer. The Greece, N.Y. native played in 11 contests in 2015, limited due to injury. For her career, she has played in 71 games, starting 51 of them. As a freshman, she recorded 12 runs batted in.
Â
Doane had a terrific rookie campaign, earning All-ACC honors along the way. The Bolingbrook, Ill. native posted a .312 batting average, .513 slugging percentage, and .395 on-base percentage in 2014. The health and exercise science major led the Orange with 48 hits and 16 doubles, as well.
