SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange placed three players on the 2015 Athlon Sports Preseason All-ACC Football Team, released on Monday, June 8.
Â
Punter Riley Dixon earned third-team honors, while offensive tackle Ivan Foy and defensive end Ron Thompson were named to the fourth-team offense and defense, respectively.
Â
A 2014 All-ACC Honorable Mention choice, Dixon averaged 42.4 yards per punt last season. He had 17 kicks of 50 or more yards, including a season-best boot of 60 yards at Wake Forest. For his career, Dixon is fourth all-time at SU in punting average (42.2).
Â
Foy, who was slowed by injuries last season, is slated to start at left tackle in 2015 after making six first-string appearances at right tackle in 2014. In the six games Foy started, the Orange offensive line allowed just five sacks.
Â
Monday's preseason honor is the second for Thompson, who was also a fourth-team conference pick by Phil Steele. Thompson racked up 32 tackles in 12 games last season, including seven for a loss and three sacks.
Â
Syracuse opens the 2015 season at home on Friday, Sept. 4 against Rhode Island. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
