Historic Number of Participants Qualify for Nationals
- Eight members of the Orange qualifying for the NCAA Championships is the most the program has had competing at nationals in over 30 years.
- Seven Syracuse men at the event is also a record.
- The Orange had six NCAA qualifiers last season, which was the previous high over that span, bringing its two-year total to 14.
Ranking the Orange
- The Syracuse men enter the NCAA Championships ranked No. 22 in the USTFCCCA Poll.
- Syracuse was ranked as high as No. 19 this season, which is the highest rank in program history.
- 'Cuse competes without throwers and a limited roster of jumpers and still enters the weekend as the third-highest ranked team in the ACC.
- This is in large part due to the strong distance program head coach Chris Fox has built. The Syracuse cross country team won its fifth conference title in six seasons this year and finished fifth at the NCAA Championship.
- Six of the eight NCAA Qualifiers are competing in distnace events (5,000 and 10,000 meters).
Hehir Looking for Three-Straight All-America Honors
- Martin Hehir is attempting to earn All-America honors in every season this year, which would bring his streak to four-straight seasons with All-America accolades dating back to the 2014 outdoor season.
- He took 37th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, and 7th in the 3000-meters at the indoor track championships this year.
- Hehir earned ACC Championships in cross country and the 5k (indoor) this year previously and was named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for both sports.
Doubling and Tripling Up
- Three members of the Orange will be competing in the 10k, which ties for the second-most men of any school in any event at the NCAA Championships. Martin Hehir, Dan Lennon and Max Straneva will be representing the Orange in the event.
- Only four Oregon runners in the 5,000-meters is more than the Syracuse 10k contingent.
- Syracuse also has two runners in the 5k (Justyn Knight and Colin Bennie) and 110-meter hurdles (Freddie Crittenden and Donald Pollitt).
Repeat Runners
- Four members of this year's Syracuse contingent at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships have been there before, with Freddie Crittenden, Margo Malone and Martin Hehir all making the trip in 2014, and Donald Pollitt getting to there in 2013.
- Pollitt and Hehir each earned All-America honors in their last trip to Eugene, with Pollitt placing sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 2013 and Hehir taking seventh last year in the 10k.in September. The Orange has won its last three meets.
Malone Carries Torch for Women's Program
- Margo Malone will be the lone member of the Syracuse women's program represented at the NCAA Outdoor Championships after teammate Shaina Harrison missed the cut in the 100-meters by 0.003 seconds at the NCAA East Regional.
- She's used to leading the pack for Syracuse though, as a silver medalist at the ACC Cross Country Championships and winning the ACC title in the 10k this season, Malone has had another successful campaign at Syracuse.
- She took 19th in the 10k at last season's NCAA Championships, while teammate Sarah Pagano earned All-America honors in the event.
Knight Time
- One key addition to the Orange has been freshman Justyn Knight -- who entered Syracuse coming off an eighth place finish in the 5,000-meters at the World Junior Championships -- and has racked up numerous accolades during his rookie campaign.
- He hasn't been running competitively for a full four years yet as he took up the sport midway through his sophomore year of high school.
- Knight was the third 'Cuse runner across the line at the ACC Cross Country Championships, before breaking the Canadian Junior Mile Record during the indoor season (while redshirting for the Orange) and then setting the school's 5k and 1500 meter records during the outdoor season.
- He won the Pan Am Games Junior Cross Country Championship this winter and an ACC Championship in the 1500-meters, before entering this NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 5k.
Hurdling History
- In addition to the distance program, the Orange has expreicened a tremendous amount of hurdling success under sprints coach Dave Hegland.
- Syracuse has been represented in the 110-meter hurdles at nationals for now four-straight years after Donald Pollitt and Freddie Crittenden qualified this year.
- In the last three trips to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, 'Cuse has emerged with two All-American performances. Pollitt earned the distinction in '13 and Jarret Eaton did the same in '12.
- Eaton also produced the school's last track and field national title in the 60-meter hurdles in 2012.

Best Distance Year in Nearly 60-Years
- This has been arguably the best year for the distance program since the 1950s, beginning with the men's team racing to its best finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships since 1957 (5th place) and recording its best rank in program history (No. 2).
- The seven distance runners qualifying for nationals in outdoor track is also the most in at least 30 years.
- The team had two cross country All-Americans and one in indoor track as well.
