SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 2015-16 Syracuse University women's basketball team will participate in the 2015 South Point Shootout at South Point Arena in Las Vegas. Syracuse is one of eight teams participating in the South Point Shootout from Nov. 27-28.
Â
Each team will play two games at the event. Syracuse will first play 2015 NCAA Tournament participant Washington on Nov. 27 at 9:45 p.m. EST. On Nov. 28, the Orange will conclude competition in Las Vegas with a matchup against in-state foe Fordham at 7:30 p.m EST.
Â
"We are extremely excited to be participating in the South Point Shootout," head coach Quentin Hillsman stated. "These games will strengthen our non-conference schedule and provide us with tough competition heading into league play."
Â
Washington ended the 2014-15 season with a 23-10 overall record and lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Atlantic Coast Conference-foe Miami. The Huskies return rising junior guard Kelsey Plum, a two-time All-Pac 12 honoree. She led the conference in scoring last season, tallying 22.6 points per game.
Â
For the second straight season, Syracuse and Fordham will meet. The Orange bested the Rams, 59-42, in its season opener. Fordham ended the 2014-15 campaign with a 21-12 overall record. The Rams lost in the second round of the WNIT to St. John's.
Â
With this announcement, three of Syracuse's non-conference games are set. The Orange will play 2015 national semifinalist Maryland in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Syracuse and Maryland will meet on Dec. 2 in College Park, Md.
Â
Syracuse is coming off its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, a program-first. The Orange won its first-round contest for the second year in-a-row, as well. In all, the club finished the 2014-15 season with a 22-10 overall record and 11-5 mark in ACC action. The program recorded its highest ranking in the Associated Press Poll in program history in 2014-15, following an 8-1 start to the year. Syracuse checked in at No. 19 nationally, one spot shy of matching its highest appearance in either major national poll.
