The teams meet in a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament third-round contest.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 15 Syracuse returns to the pitch on Saturday, August 15 when it hosts No. 3 Georgetown in an exhibition match at 4 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. It is a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament third-round match, which the Hoyas won, 2-1, in overtime.
Â
Saturday's exhibition is part of Syracuse's annual Fan Fest, which begins at 3 p.m. at the Lampe Athletics Complex. Admission is free and complimentary parking is available in Manley North and South lots. The event will feature food and refreshments, prizes, interactive games and bouncers for kids. The Orange football squad will have its annual preseason camp and scrimmage at 6:15 p.m.
Â
The Orange made history in 2014 when it reached No. 1 in the nation for the first time in school history. Syracuse won a share of the Atlantic Coast Conference Atlantic Division title and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament. The No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Orange earned a first-round bye before defeating Penn State at the SU Soccer Stadium, 2-1. Syracuse advanced to the NCAA Tournament third round where it lost to Georgetown, 1-0, on the road. The Orange finished the season with a 16-4-1 record, one win shy of the school single-season record for victories (17) set in 1982.
Â
Syracuse returns two of its top four leading scorers from last season in juniors Chris Nanco and Oyvind Alseth. Nanco tallied 12 points last season on five goals and two assists, while Alseth had 11 points on three goals and five assists. The Orange must replace goalkeeper Alex Bono, who was a finalist for last year's MAC Hermann Trophy and was drafted in the first round of the MLS Draft.
