FORWARDS
Senior Emma Russell leads a talented group of forwards back for an offense that found the back of the net over three times per game last season (3.17).
Russell, an NFHCA First Team All-American in 2014, enters her final season with the program just four goals shy of the all-time goals scored record at Syracuse.
Russell will be joined up front by the likes of Laura Hurff, Lies Lagerweij and Serra Degnan, among others who return to the 'Cuse roster and figure to be large factors in the offense.
Hurff, who was selected to the U.S. U21 team earlier this summer, played in every game as a freshman last season, with 22 starts. She tallied 14 points off five goals and four assists, including two game-winners.
Lagerweij was sidelined to start her freshman season due to injury, but started the final-10 games of the year and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team after scoring five goals in the last-nine games of the year.
Degnan, a junior, was one-of-three players on the Orange to start all-24 games last season. She scored four goals as a freshman in 2013 and finished the year with one assist in 2014.
Junior Liz Sack started 22-of-24 games last season as a sophomore and figures to continue to play a crucial role for the Orange this year.
Caroline Cady also returns to the Orange for her sophomore campaign.
Alongside the returners, Syracuse will have a cast of talented newcomers to bolster the 'Cuse frontline.
Led by junior Northeastern transfer Emma Lamison, who led the Huskies in scoring in 2014 and also was added to the U.S. U21 roster with Hurff, the Liverpool, N.Y. native was a Second Team All-American before joining the Orange.
Freshman Jennifer Bleakney, another member of the Orange who earned an invite to the U.S. U21 camp this summer, is also set to help out the Orange on offense as well as fellow freshman Emma Tufts.
Tufts joins Syracuse from the Cushing Academy in Manchester, N.H., where she tallied 105 career points on 34 goals and 71 assists.
Syracuse will open the 2015 campaign on Friday, Aug. 28 at Stanford. The game is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. eastern.
