
Orange Post A Number of Wins at Upstate Challenge

The Syracuse track and field teams headed just south to Cornell this weekend, taking on a number of New York squads at the Cornell Upstate Challenge. The Orange walked away with victories in a number of events in the successful meet.
Freddie Crittenden won the 60-meter hurdles for the second-straight week. This time, posting a time of 7.81 seconds. His 7.74 at last week's Ramapo Opener is still the third-fastest time nationally so far this year. Crittenden was followed closely by David Gilstrap and Chevis Armstead, who took third and fourth respectively at 8.16 and 8.18 seconds. Richard Floyd finished sixth in 8.32 seconds.
Tia Thevenin won the women's event with a time of 8.46. Teammates Danielle Delgado (8.72) and Regine Hunter (8.91) also made the finals, taking third and sixth.
Shaina Harrison took home the gold in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 7.39 seconds. Harrison is one of just 23 women to break the 7.4 second mark so far on the season. Kadejhia Sellers was right on her heels in 7.54 seconds, while Rebecca Robinson, the 400-meter specialist, finished fifth with a time of 7.70.
In the men's race, Chuka Soronnadi and Kashif Miller finished third and fourth respectively. Soronnadi fell to Albany's Robert Harris who won the race by just 0.01 seconds with a time of 6.97. Miller turned in a time of 7.01.
The only woman to compete in the 800-meter run for Syracuse was Elizabeth Reynolds. Her time of 2:16.16 was good for third overall.
In the men's 800, Paul Lovell was the winner for Syracuse, besting Shamar Powell of Binghamton by just 0.02 seconds. Lovell crossed the line in 1:56.04
Sydney Leiher won the 1000-meters for 'Cuse as well, taking the race in a time of 2:48.95. Men's teammate Adam Palamar won the men's race in dominant fashion as well, taking the top-spot in 2:25.76.
The Syracuse distance squad took seven of the top-nine places in the mile run. Led by winner Mickey Burke, who turned in a time of 4:16.07, who beat out Cornell's David Taylor by 0.20 seconds. Griff Molino (4th/4:29.18), Nick Ryan (5th/4:19.46), Joe Kush (6th/4:19.71) Kevin James (7th/4:19.81), Juris Silenieks (8th/4:19.81) and Simon Smith (9th/4:21.31) rounded out the Orange in the top-10 of the event.
The women's mile had a large Orange contingent as well. Shaylyn Tuite had the best race, finishing in a time of 5:05.52, which was good for fifth overall. Mary Malone finished in sixth just 0.3 seconds behind, while Alex Cooper (9th/5:08.81) and Rebecca Skodis (10th/5:09.12) each turned in top-10 performances as well.
The Orange jumpers all reached the podium. Reggie Morton finished second, leaping to a distance of 7.36 meters in the long jump. Pascal Bastein finished third in the triple jump, totaking 13.93 meters, while Jabari Butler finished third in the high jump at 2.04 meters.
Syracuse returns to action next week at Boston University.
