SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Orange sophomore quarterback Eric Dungey is up for a pair of national quarterback awards for his performance in Syracuse's 31-17 victory over No. 17 Virginia Tech. Dungey was named to the Davey O'Brien "Great 8" list for Week 7 of the college football season on Monday, Oct. 17. He was also tabbed a Manning Award "Star of the Week."
Â
The honors are the latest plaudits for Dungey, who earlier Monday was voted the ACC Offensive Back of the Week after totaling a career-high 417 yards of total offense against the Hokies.
Â
A finance major in Syracuse's Martin J. Whitman School of Management, Dungey became the first player in school history to throw for 300 yards and rush for 100 yards in the same game. He was 28-of-53 passing for 311 yards and a touchdown. He rushed 24 times for a career-best 106 yards and another score. His 1-yard touchdown plunge with 7:56 remaining proved the difference in the Orange's first win over a ranked opponent since 2012.
Â
All 128 FBS quarterbacks are eligible for the Davey O'Brien Quarterback of the Week Award. The winner, which will be one of the week's "Great 8" quarterbacks, will be announced tomorrow by the award's selection subcommittee. Along with Dungey, J.T. Barrett (Ohio State), Sam Darnold (USC), Skyler Howard (West Virginia), Jalen Hurts (Alabama), Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma), Mitch Trubisky (North Carolina) and Deshaun Watson (Clemson) are in the running for this week's award.
Â
Sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the folks at the Manning Award also took note of Dungey, naming him one of their eight "Stars of the Week." College football fans can visit the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page now to vote for who they think had the best performance this past weekend. Voting closes at noon Thursday and the overall top vote-getter will be named this week's Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.
Â
Dungey, Barrett, Howard, Mayfield, Quinton Flowers (USF), Ryan Higgins (Louisiana Tech), Matt Linehan (Idaho) and Eastern Michigan's Brogan Roback are in contention for this week's Manning honor.
Â
Syracuse will head to Boston College this weekend for a 12:30 p.m. matchup with the Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 22. The game will air live on the ACC Network.
