Emerich's Career Ends After Shoulder Surgery

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Orange redshirt senior center Jason Emerich suffered a shoulder injury against Louisville on Sept. 9. He underwent surgery on Oct. 11 and, as a result, will miss the remainder of the 2016 season.

A member of the 2016 Rimington Award Watch List as the nation's top center, Emerich finishes his college career with 28 games played, including 14 starts. He started Syracuse's first two games of the year versus Colgate and Louisville and recorded nine knockdown blocks in 172 snaps. He has not played since. In 2015, Emerich joined the starting front five Week 3 against Central Michigan and never left the lineup.

A leader for the Orange in the classroom and in the community, Emerich was named to the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy before the season. The award is presented to the FBS player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement. He was also Syracuse's 2016 nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

Emerich is a two-time ACC Honor Roll selection and was named to the All-ACC Academic Football Team in 2015.

The Orange are 4-4 and visit No. 3 Clemson (8-0) on Saturday, Nov. 5. Kickoff from Memorial Stadium is slated for 3:30 p.m. on ABC and ESPN2.
