Slim tallies 16 points, 11 boards, and six steals in win
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Coming into the contest against Siena on Nov. 14, senior forward Isabella Slim of the Syracuse women's basketball team had cracked double-digits in the scoring column three times in her collegiate career. Slim had only tallied one game with at least 10 rebounds, as well. It all came together in Syracuse's second game of the 2016-17 season.
The Amsterdam native notched 16 points, one shy of her career high, and pulled down a personal-best 11 rebounds. In addition, she swiped a team-high six steals, also setting a new career best.
"We need our seniors to play hard and be aggressive," head coach Quentin Hillsman said in his postgame press conference. "They are carrying us right now. They had a monster night. Isabella had 16 points, 11 rebounds, and six steals, just an amazing night."
Slim has been a constant fixture in the Orange lineup since arriving on campus in 2013. Coming into her final season, Slim had started all 103 contests of her collegiate career, which was tied for 10th in program history.
The senior forward has seen a jump in her numbers in the first two games of the 2016-17 campaign. Prior to the start of the season, she had averaged 2.1 points and 2.0 rebounds per contest in an average of 12.5 minutes per game. Through the first two matchups, Slim is tallying 12.0 points and 7.0 boards per contest, playing an average of 29.5 minutes per game.
"Anytime we can get that kind of effort, that kind of productivity out of our veterans, we are going to do well," commented Hillsman.
Slim and Syracuse are back in action on Friday night when they take on Stony Brook on the road. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. at IFCU Arena in Stony Brook, N.Y.
