One race, one smashed Syracuse school record for the Syracuse men's track and field team at the ACC Indoor Championship.
There was just one race on the track on Thursday, the opening day of the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championship, with both the men and women competing in the distance medley relay.
The men took second to open the scoring for SU, as the team of Joel Hubbard, Paul Lovell, Adam Palamar and Justyn Knight smashed the old school record by nearly nine seconds, and finished below the previous ACC Championship time in 9:36.74.
Virginia (9:36.27) edged out the Orange for the top spot, with Virginia Tech (9:38.69) finishing third.
The Syracuse women finished sixth in a time of 11:26.51, with Karina Ernst, Brittany Belo, Elizabeth Reynolds and Sydney Leiher running for the Orange. Clemson, defending ACC Champions, kicked off the weekend with a win in the event (11:08.09).
After day one, with just one track event and some multi-events, the Syracuse men sit in fourth (eight points), with Virginia leading with 13 points. The Syracuse women sit in ninth (three points), with Florida State leading, owning 24 points.
Action continues tomorrow, with the evening races televised on ESPN3 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
