It's been all-Syracuse in the ACC 5000-meters over the last year, and Justyn Knight continued the trend for the Orange on Friday night, taking the individual crown and leading three runners inside of the top-five of the event.
It's the third-straight ACC Championship Syracuse has won in the men's 5000-meters, with Knight winning the 2015 ACC Outdoor Championship in the event, and Martin Hehir winning last year's indoor championship in an ACC championships record time of 13:57.97.
The Orange's three runners in the top-five led to 20 team points in the 5k alone to finish day two with the overall team lead at 32 points, with one day remaining.
Knight made his move with just over a lap to go, moving on the outside past Virginia Tech's Thomas Curtin and holding him off over the final stretch to sprint to the finish.
Knight finished in 14:01.70, while sophomore Colin Bennie took the bronze in 14:02.88 and Philo Germano finished fifth, crossing the line in 14:05.08. Kevyn Hoyos rounded out the Orange in the field taking ninth (14:10.95).
The women's 5k was the only other final on the track Friday, with Shaylyn Tuite scoring for the women with a fourth-place finish in a personal best time of 16:15.53. Notre Dame's Molly Seidel repeated as champion with a time of 15:19.64.
The men's long jump and high jump were the only other points up for grabs on Friday that 'Cuse had student-athletes competing in. Reggie Morton came up big for the Orange in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 7.39 meters and picking up four important points for Syracuse.
Jabari Butler competed in the high jump for Syracuse, clearing 2.04 meters, which was good for ninth.
Syracuse also positioned itself well to accumulate more points on Saturday, with numerous student-athletes qualifying for finals in their respective events.
The men's 60-meter hurdles were the highlight of the day for the preliminary events, with Syracuse placing four student-athletes in the eight-man finals. Freddie Crittenden III is the top qualifier in the event, racing to a personal best time of 7.70 seconds on Friday. He'll be joined by teammates David Gilstrap (3rd/8.00) Richard Floyd (4th/8.01) and Chevis Armstead (6th/8.06).
The Orange also have the top qualifier in the women's 60-meter dash as Shaina Harrison looks to defend her title from 2015 in the event. Harrison raced to a time of 7.33 seconds, two hundredths of a second off her personal best time to lead the way in the event. Freshman Kadejhia Sellers also reached the finals, qualifying in fourth position with a time of 7.45 seconds.
Winston Lee will represent the Orange in the men's 60-meter dash, he qualified with a time of 6.73 seconds, which was also good for fourth.
In the men's mile, two members of the Orange are on to Saturday. Joel Hubbard qualified with a time of 4:06.25 and Adam Palamar will join him after posting a 4:11.91.
Sydney Leiher will represent the Syracuse women in the event as she qualified in 4:44.63 after running a strong final leg of the distance medley relay last night.
Tia Thevenin continued the Orange's run of success in the 60-meter hurdles over to the women's race as she made it to the finals as well, crossing the line in 8.36 seconds.
Action concludes tomorrow at the ACC Championships, with the events set to be broadcast on ESPN3 live from 1-4 p.m.
