Orange begin third week of practice
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange football team is nearing the halfway point of its spring season. Syracuse held its seventh of 15 spring practice sessions this morning at the Ensley Athletic Center.
Â
Head coach Dino Babers flipped the practice script Tuesday, as the Orange opened the session with multiple team periods and closed the workout with position drills. That was a departure from previous practices, which began with individual work and featured team periods later on.
Â
The 110-minute session marked the team's return to the practice field since its 124-play scrimmage Saturday and Babers liked his squad's approach.
Â
"They're hungry. They're eager to learn," Babers said. "They did a great job of having a tough scrimmage on Saturday and they came back out here today and really got after it extremely well."
Â
Freshman Moe Neal flashed the ability that made him the No. 14 all-purpose back in this year's class, according to Rivals.com. Neal used his speed and quickness to break a couple big runs up the middle during Tuesday's team sessions.
Â
In addition, Babers added more special teams work to the practice. After not kicking extra points or field goals during the scrimmage, the team did both Tuesday with 2014 Lou Groza Award semifinalist Cole Murphy primarily handling the place-kicking duties.
Â
The Orange have seven more practices leading up to the 2016 Syracuse Spring Scrimmage on Saturday, April 2 at the Carrier Dome. Start time is 11 a.m. and admission is free.
Â
Syracuse will hold its first 'Select-A-Seat' event that day. Fans will have the opportunity to walk the Dome and choose the best available seat locations for 2016 season tickets. A sampling of available seats will be marked in each section and members of the Carrier Dome Box Office staff will be on hand to assist with the selection process and answer any questions.
Â
The 2016 season gets underway Friday, Sept. 2 at home against Colgate. This year's schedule features six home dates, including conference games against Louisville, Virginia Tech, NC State and Florida State.
Â
Season tickets are on sale now online, by phone (1-888-DOMETIX) and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B). Tickets start at $99 ($16.50 per game) with lower-level seats in the end zones available for as little as $125.
Â
NOTES: Offensive lineman Michael Lasker earned the honor of breaking the team down to end practice.
