The Kraus-Simmons trophy is headed back to Syracuse after the No. 10 Orange defeated Hobart 13-6 at Boswell Field in Geneva, in the 102nd edition of the third-longest rivalry in college lacrosse.
Jordan Evans posted a season high four goals, while Evan Molloy made seven saves in his first-career start to lead the Orange.
Syracuse jumped out to an early lead, netting five first quarter goals while holding the Statesmen scoreless.
The Syracuse rally started early, with three goals scored in a 1:13 span in the first to jump out to a quick 3-0 lead. Jordan Evans scored the first goal of the game, before Derek DeJoe ripped a hard righty shot into the top corner seconds later. Evans then scored on the doorstep to force a Hobart timeout less than five minutes into play.
Sergio Salcido then got into the scoring mix, finishing on a pass from Nick Mariano with 7:54 to play in the first. The Orange then tacked on another after Matt Lane fired a blast on Hobart goalkeeper Jackson Brown, but Lane then collected the rebound and buried the fifth 'Cuse goal, ending the first with a 5-0 lead.
Hobart tacked on a pair of goals from Frank Brown and Chris Aslanian before Syracuse rebounded with two of their own. Evans picked up his third of the evening on a pass from Donahue with 9:06 to play before halftime to halt the Statesmen mini-run.
Donahue's assist extended his nation's leading point streak to 48 games.
Â
Mariano then scored the seventh Orange goal to open the lead back to five, before Hobart tallied one in the waning seconds to send the teams to the locker room with Syracuse leading 7-3.
Out of the break it was all Hobart for the first-five minutes. The Statesmen racked up three-straight goals out of the locker room to pull within one, attempting to tie the game before Molloy stonewalled the Hobart attack on the doorstep, leading to a 'Cuse run out and Salcido finishing a pass from Barber in transition for a goal.
Â
Molloy made four saves in the third quarter alone to quell the Hobart run.
The goal started a 6-0 run which Syracuse would end the game on.
Â
Donahue scored twice in the run, extending the nation's second-longest goal streak to 34 games, while Salcido also tacked on two, with Evans and Barber contributing goals as well.
Â
Salcido finished with five points on the day after leading SU with three assists.
Next, Syracuse will continue its rivalry run, taking on Cornell on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Ithaca.
