CHESTER, Pa. – No. 4 Syracuse had its 2016 season come to an end in a 19-9 loss to No. 1 Maryland in the national semifinals of the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament. The Orange ends the year with a 19-6 record, while the Terrapins improve to 22-0.

Senior Kayla Treanor played in in the final game of her storied career. She recorded 11 draw controls against the Terrapins, giving her 217 this season, which is a new NCAA Division I single-season record, surpassing Robert Morris' Jessica Karwacki's 216 in 2014. Treanor recorded one point, ending her four years with 393. That total ranks second all-time at Syracuse and fourth on the NCAA Division I all-time scoring list. Her 260 goals are the highest total in program history and the sixth-highest total in Division I history.

Maryland won the opening draw and Taylor Hensch found the back of the net 40 seconds into the contest to give the Terrapins an early lead. The Orange answered when freshman Nicole Levy picked up a loose ball and got a pass off to sophomore Riley Donahue, who found the back of the net at the 28:34 mark. Hensh tallied her second goal of the night less than a minute later to spark the Terrapins on a 5-0 scoring run, which gave Maryland a 6-1 lead at the 18:11 mark.

Senior Halle Majorana briefly halted the Terrapins' offensive outburst when she scored on an assist from Levy, but Hensch tallied her third goal of the night and the first of four straight for Maryland as it took its largest lead of the half at 10-8 with 3:56 on the clock. Donahue picked up a loose ball in front of the crease and buried her shot at the 1:07 mark to cut the deficit to 10-3 at halftime.

The Orange opened the second half with back-to-back goals by Treanor and Levy to cut the deficit to five, 10-5, with 27:59 on the clock. After the squads traded goals, Taylor Cummings scored an unassisted goal at the 22:32 mark to spark Maryland on a 5-0 scoring run that gave the Terps a 16-10 advantage. Majorana coverted a free-position attempt with 11:37 remaining, but Maryland answered with two more to take an 18-7 advantage.

Donahue completed her hat trick and Levy scored on a hard shot from the top of the fan to cut the deficit to nine, but the Orange had a long road ahead down 18-9. The Terrapins scored their final goal of the contest with 1:09 left, as Taylor Hensh netted her fourth of the game. With time dwindling on the clock, Treanor eventually tied the single-season draw controls record, but the clock expired seconds later as the Terrapins won 19-9.

The Orange conclude the season after making their fifth consecutive trip to the Final Four.
