
Orange Alum Named Olympic Flag Bearer

Syracuse track and field alum Flings Owusu-Agyapong will have the unique honor of carrying her nation's flag and leading the Ghana delegation into the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Olympics on Friday, after she was selected as the country's flag bearer.
A 2012 graduate of SU who has since been a volunteer assistant with the program, Owusu-Agyapong will race in the 100-meter dash and 4x100 meters at the games.
The Orange record holder in the 100-meter dash, she was a 2012 Soladay Award nominee at the 'Cuse Awards, which is the top honor a Syracuse student-athlete can receive.
Owusu-Agyapong won silver at the 2012 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship after earning USTFCCCA Second Team All-America honors in the 60-meter dash during the 2012 indoor campaign. She also earned honorable mention All-America honors as a junior in the 100-meters in 2011.
The Opening Ceremony kicks off the 2016 games in Rio this Friday, August 5, at 7 p.m. and will be televised on NBC.Â
