16 freshmen and three transfers highlight 2017 newcomers
Nineteen new student-athletes will join the Syracuse men's lacrosse team for the 2017 season, head coach John Desko announced.
The class features 16 freshmen, four of which rank in the top-100 of Inside Lacrosse's Power 100 and three transfers.
Newcomer Player Profiles
"I'm pleased to welcome this group of 19 players to our program," Desko said. "With fall practices starting this week we had an opportunity to get them on the field and in a Syracuse jersey for the first time and I'm excited to see their progress."
The class features three of the nation's top-12 incoming midfielders, one of the nation's top-four incoming defensemen and the No. 2 ranked goaltender in the high school class of 2016 according to Inside Lacrosse. Syracuse also welcomes transfers from nationally known programs Denver, Johns Hopkins and Lafayette.
Fans first chance to catch the newcomers to the program as well as the Orange's 36 returners will come on Saturday, Sept. 24 as part of the annual Alumni Classic. The day features the Legends Game at 2:30 p.m. before the current varsity squad takes on the young alumni at 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door, with free parking in the surface lots adjacent to the Carrier Dome. All proceeds of the event benefit the Syracuse men's lacrosse program.
