
Nanco, Alseth Drafted in Third Round of MLS SuperDraft

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse seniors Chris Nanco and Oyvind Alseth were selected in the third round of the Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft, which continued on Tuesday, Jan. 17. Nanco was the 11th pick of the third round by the Philadelphia Union, while Alseth was drafted by Toronto FC with the 21st pick of the third round.

Nanco and Alseth are the third and fourth members of the Orange to be selected in this year's MLS SuperDraft. Miles Robinson (Arlington, Mass.) was the second overall pick by Atlanta United, while Liam Callahan (Amherst, N.Y.) was picked in the second round by the Colorado Rapids. It marks the first time in program history that Syracuse has had four players picked in the MLS SuperDraft.

Nanco led the Orange in scoring in 2016 with a career-high 15 points. He tied for eighth in the ACC with a personal-best seven goals. Nanco was voted to the All-ACC First Team and the All-South Region Third Team.

Alseth started all 20 matches in the midfield for the Orange this season. He tied for the team lead with four assists and finished the year with six points. The two-time team captain was an All-ACC Third Team selection in 2015. Alseth has also been recognized for his work in the classroom. He was a candidate for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree.
