NEWTON, Mass. – Syracuse sophomore Johannes Pieles scored in the 52nd minute to tie the match, but Boston College scored a goal in overtime to give the Eagles a 2-1 victory against the Orange in men's soccer action in Newton, Mass.

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Boston College (5-8-0, 1-5-0) took the lead in the 29th minute when Henry Balf scored on a low shot from 12 yards off an assist from Simon Enstrom to give the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. The score stayed that way until the 52nd minute when Pieles scored on a header to the far post off a deep angled ball from freshman Simon Triantafillou to even the score at 1-1.
Â
Both teams had chances to record the go-ahead goal in the final minute, but Syracuse (5-7-2, 0-5-1) goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert made one of his four saves on Younes Boudadi's shot, and Orange freshman Tajon Buchanan's attempt with two seconds on the clock was blocked, sending the game into overtime.
Â
The Eagles' golden goal came in the 95th minute. Callum Johnson collected a pass from Enstrom and put his shot in the back of the net to give Boston College the victory.
Â
"It's a really tough, disappointing loss tonight," said Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre. "I feel that we did enough to earn something from this game. Boston College has been a tough match on the road for us in recent years, but tonight, I think we created enough good chances to secure at least a point from this game. We had six freshmen on the field tonight and, although this is a bitter pill to swallow right now, we will continue to learn from these difficult challenges."
