Hey 'Cuse fans! Syracuse volleyball will be releasing a weekly offseason blog with one entry from each student-athlete. This week marks the second installment of our 'Offseason Updater' with an exceprt from freshman Polina Prokudina!
Name: Polina Prokudina
Postition: Outside hitter
Year: Freshman
Major: Enrolled in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics
Hometown: Moscow, Russia
Polina: It is my first spring at Syracuse University and I really want to focus on achieving all of my goals that were difficult to reach during season - starting with volleyball.
The season was really hard but it was also too short to work on individual skills and technique, so offseason is an ideal time for it. It is also a good time for preparing ourselves mentally and physically for the future season to get a higher ranking in the ACC. Finally, I want to become stronger and more successful individually, that is why I need work as hard as I can.
As for school, I'm thinking about defining my major. It is difficult for me, because I do not have special interests, but the more and more time I spend thinking about it, I think I will choose an Earth Science major. I need to focus on my studies for achieving my academic goals and also work hard on it.
During offseason I have more free time, that is why I decided to develop myself culturally. I try to read more books in different genres, visit social events which are held by our University and go to some sporting events as well. I really want to learn how to drive a car and get my license. Also, because I am an international student, I want to learn more about culture and the history of the United States.
A big thanks goes to my teammates for helping me a lot in it while I share my knowledge of Russian culture, especially with traditional dances. Moreover, I am thinking about starting to learn other foreign languages such as Spanish and Greek.
