11,021 in attendance at the Carrier Dome
SYRACUSE, NY – The No. 21/21 Syracuse women's basketball team set a home single-game attendance in 85-80 loss against No. 7/6 Notre Dame on Sunday night in the Carrier Dome. Syracuse eclipsed its previous mark by more than 6,000, as 11,021 were in attendance.
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
The Orange dominated the start of the game, with the club knocking down its first seven attempts from the field. By the end of the first period, Syracuse (18-9) led Notre Dame (25-3), 30-23. Going into halftime, the team extended its lead to eight points.
Headed into the final 10 minutes, Syracuse had its advantage trimmed to four points. A lay-up from Fighting Irish junior center Brianna Turner with 7:52 remaining in regulation gave the visitors its first lead of the game. The Orange clawed back and had a shot to tie it with three seconds remaining, but a 3-point field goal attempt from senior guard Alexis Peterson fell short.
Q'S TAKE
"It was a great crowd and a major moment for our program to have that kind of support. We played a great three quarters. We just have to do a better job of getting in front on that action, playing off the high post, and doing what we are supposed to do. But, it wasn't for a lack of effort."
OF NOTE
For the 10th time this season, four Syracuse players scored in double figures. Peterson had 19 points and 14 assists for her seventh double-double of the season. Her 14 assists tied her career high reached against Boston College on Jan. 8 of this year.
Redshirt senior guard Brittney Sykes also had 19 points and eight rebounds. Senior center Briana Day added 18 points.
Freshman guard Gabby Cooper had a career-high six 3-point field goals made for 18 points in the game.
The loss ended the Orange's 18-game home winning streak. It was the first loss for Syracuse since January 25, 2016 against Louisville.
