
O’Hara Named Top-10 Finalist for USA Softball Player of the Year

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sydney O'Hara joins a group of the most elite players in the NCAA this season, as she was named 1-of-10 finalists for USA Softball's Player of the Year award. The accolade is considered the most prestigious nod in collegiate softball. O'Hara is the only Syracuse player to be nominated for the award in the history of the program.
USA Softball, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, announced today the Top 10 Finalists for the 2017 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, which will be announced at the opening of the 2017 NCAA Women's College World Series (WCWS) in Oklahoma City. The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, which is considered the most prestigious honor in Division I women's collegiate softball, recognizes the outstanding athletic achievement by Division I female players across the country.
A native of Cicero, New York, O'Hara joins two members from both Florida State and Arizona, as well as one player apiece from Florida, James Madison, Louisiana, Minnesota and Tennessee.
The Top 3 Finalists will be announced May 24, while the winner of the 2017 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award will be revealed on May 30 prior to the start of the NCAA WCWS in Oklahoma City.
O'Hara owns a nation's best .480 batting average and .629 on-base percentage, while ranking second in saves (6) and strikeouts per seven innings (12.6). She is 12th in walks (45) and 15th in slugging percentage (.837).
O'Hara is a Human Development and Family Science major with a minor in Physical Education in Coaching in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics.
