Syracuse placed eighth at its conference championship
PRINCETON, N.J. – The field for the 2017 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship Regatta was revealed on Tuesday morning, USRowing announced. The annual national championship regatta will begin on Friday, June 2 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif.
The No. 8 Syracuse men's rowing team earned an automatic bid to the IRA Championship Regatta via an eighth-place showing at the 2017 Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC) Men's Sprints on May 14.
The Orange will compete in the first, second, and third varsity eight competitions. 24 crews are set to compete in the first and second varsity eight races, while 20 third varsity eight boats will go down the race course.
Syracuse is coming off a successful regular season where it defeated three nationally ranked opponents, including No. 6 Boston University. The Orange claimed the Conlan Cup for the first time since 2012 with its victory against the Terriers.
In its first postseason event, the first varsity eight crew notched an eighth-place showing at the EARC Men's Sprints, its best performance since the 2012 campaign. In addition, Syracuse outperformed its seeding in three of the four events it competed in at the annual conference championship regatta.
