SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Andrea Smith is joining the Syracuse softball staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2017-18 season, according to head coach, Mike Bosch. Smith joins the staff after serving as an assistant coach at Southeastern Community College.
"Coach Smith will bring energy and knowledge to our outfield," Bosch said. "She has proven herself to have a great work ethic and has a character skill set to help our team in the upcoming season."
In her lone season coaching at Southeastern C.C., Smith worked primarily with the outfielders and ran offensive drills. She was an essential part in helping the program flip a 2016 record of 13-21 to a 2017 mark of 30-20.
"I'm extremely excited to join the Syracuse softball staff," Smith said. "It has been a dream of mine to coach at the NCAA Division I level, especially in the ACC. Coach Bosch and staff have really put Syracuse softball on the map and I can't wait to contribute to the success of the program."
Smith began her collegiate softball career at Southeastern C.C. and collected many accolades. Over two seasons, she was a two-time ICCAC All-Academic Team selection, an ICCAC Second Team All-Conference Team member and was a part of the ICCAC Region XI championship team in 2014.
The Burlington, Iowa native completed her collegiate career with two more seasons at the University of Dubuque. Smith was a two-time NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete selection, an IIAC First Team All-Conference member and was a two-time recipient of the Dubuque Spartan Softball Award.
