No. 5 Syracuse (7-0, 1-0 ACC) set a new program record for consecutive shutouts in its 2-0 win over No. 21 Albany (2-3) on Sunday, having still yet to surrender a goal on the season.
The Orange used a pair of goals in similar fashion from Roos Weers in the win to down their in-state foe and sweep the weekend. The seven-straight shutouts best the 1997 record of six straight. That year the six came to start the season as well. Syracuse is the lone team in the nation that has still yet to surrender a goal, and three of the shutouts have come against ranked competiton.
"This was a tough weekend, going to Boston on Thursday night and playing BC Friday, then coming off your first ACC game into an in-state game today," said head coach Ange Bradley. "There's a lot of emotion involved and I give a lot of credit to the group for resetting and preparing for an in-state battle, which it was."
'Cuse scored a goal off a corner play in both halves from Weers, with Emma Tufts and Florine Hogendoorn getting assists on each.
The Orange didn't allow a shot on goal for the fourth time this season and drew 10 corners to the Great Danes' one. Syracuse also out-shot Albany 14-1, with the 'Cuse putting eight on cage.
Â
Next, the squad will continue ACC play on Saturday, when Wake Forest visits J.S. Coyne Stadium at 11 a.m.
