Orange Race Past Bucknell in Home Opener

The No. 5 Syracuse field hockey team (4-0) used a dominant home-opener performance to extend their shutout streak to 280 minutes to start the year and allow the Orange to roll to a 5-0 win over Bucknell.
The Orange have yet to surrender a goal on the year, and posted a season-high five tallies against the Bison on Saturday.
Jennifer Bleakney got the Orange on the board first in the 12th minute by scoring in front before Caroline Cady put 'Cuse up 2-0 in the 29th minute to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
Carolin Hoffmann scored her team-leading fourth goal of the year after Laura Hurff set her up in the 42nd minute, while Hurff scored one of her own 19 minutes later. The scoring was capped off by Emma Tufts, with six minutes remaining on a feed from Chiara Gutsche, her first collegiate point.
The Orange out-shot the Bison 18-0 on the day and didn't allow a corner either.
Syracuse is back in action on Sunday, when the team hosts Ohio at 2 p.m. at J.S. Coyne Stadium, wrapping up their first home weekend of the year.
