Ella Saada was named to the all-tournament team
Manhattan, Kan. – The Syracuse women's volleyball team concluded play at the Kansas State Invitational with a three-set loss to Arkansas (25-22, 25-13, 25-16).
Ella Saada led the Orange with seven kills and Santita Ebangwese blocked a match-high five shots. Belle Sand added a team-high six digs.
Pilar Victoria recorded a match-leading 19 kills for the Razorbacks and Rachel Rippee led all competitors with 38 assists.
How It Was Decided
With the first set all square at 11, Arkansas went on an 8-4 run and pulled ahead of Syracuse. The Orange went on a late 4-0 run to make the score 24-22 but a Victoria kill clinched the set for the Razorbacks, 25-22.
Arkansas jumped out to a commanding 16-6 lead in set two and held off 'Cuse for the 25-13 victory.
With the third set knotted up at three, Arkansas used an 8-2 run to take an 11-5 lead. The Razorbacks controlled the remainder of the game and scored the match's last five points to win 25-16.
Coach's Thoughts
"Last night's victory against Kansas State took so much emotion out of us and we did not recharge for today," said head coach Leonid Yelin. "Our players tried to build momentum off big plays and Arkansas always had an answer."
Of Note
Saada was selected to the all-tournament team for the Orange. In the three tournament matches, she compiled 21 kills, 19 digs and seven total blocks.
What's Next?
The Orange head to Hanover, N.H. on Sep. 8-9 to compete in the Dartmouth Tournament. 'Cuse will matchup with Dartmouth, Sacred Heart and Iona.
