SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's tennis team kicks off its fall schedule with a pair of tournaments this weekend. Sophomore No. 59 Miranda Ramirez will be competing at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, which runs from Sept. 22-24. The remaining team members will be playing in the West Pont Invitational from Sept. 22-24.
Ramirez was seeded fourth in the singles draw in the MTC and will face Amanda Keller from Navy. During her rookie campaign, Ramirez earned All-ACC Second Team and finished the season with the most singles wins on the team, recording 12 consecutive wins in at one point during the year.
As a unit, the tennis team finished the 2016-17 season with an 8-14 overall record and a 5-9 mark in conference play. Syracuse faced Louisville in the first round of the ACC tournament but exited the tourney early after a narrow defeat.
The Orange return seven players from last season, senior Nicole Mitchell, juniors Dina Hegab, Gabriela Knutson, Libi Mesh and Maria Tritou, sophomore Ramirez, and graduate student Anna Shkudun.
