Carey Scores Twice in Fifth-Straight Orange Win

The No. 5 Syracuse field hockey team (5-0) recorded their fifth-straight shutout to start the season, downing Ohio 3-0 in a rainy contest on Sunday.
The Orange got a pair of goals from Elaine Carey in the first half, with Carolin Hoffmann tacking on one in the second half for good measure. Borg van der Velde made three saves in the win.
'Cuse outshot the Bobcats 20-3 in the win and earned six corners to Ohio's one.
The Orange got on the board with less than five minutes gone in the contest, when Roos Weers drilled a hard shot off a corner that deflected off Carey's stick and into the back of the net.
Fifteen minutes later, Emma Tufts drew the Bobcats' net minder out of the cage and passed across circle to Carey, who finished once again to open a 2-0 lead.
Hoffmann then extended her goal-streak to three-straight games when finishing a high, floating shot on an assist from Florine Hogendoorn with 11 minutes to go.
Syracuse will next open ACC play with a road trip to Boston College on Friday evening.
