'Cuse Community Partnering with Orange Women Hoops
1/12/2018 11:30:00 AM | Women's Basketball
The Central New York community is invited to join CNY Chevy Dealers and other area businesses to celebrate the success of the Syracuse University women's basketball program. CNY Chevrolet Dealers, represented by president Gino Barbuto, and multiple Syracuse businesses are leading the effort to celebrate Syracuse University women's basketball and the benefits of sports. The initiative features area businesses purchasing blocks of tickets for the Orange women's basketball game against Pittsburgh on Sunday, January 21 (2 pm at the Carrier Dome).
Â
More than 12,000 tickets have been purchased. The Syracuse women's basketball attendance record is 11,021 set in 2016-17. In addition to CNY Chevy Dealers, the community organizations supporting the initiative include: Galaxy Communications and Radio Station TK99; National Grid; Pathfinder Bank; Printing and Promotional Solutions; Visions Federal Credit Union; Center State CEO; and community leader Allen Naples.
Â
Carrier Dome gates A, B and C open at 1 pm. Parking is free in all West lots on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the West lots are full, fans will be directed to Manley Field House where free shuttle busses will run to the Carrier Dome.
Â
Prior to the game, fans are invited to participate in Winterfest in the Carrier Dome backcourt, which will feature SnowGlobe Live, an exciting winter wonderland photo experience, face painting by the Syracuse Spirit Squad, crafts, a selfie station, autographed posters, food, and music. The first 5,000 fans will receive a free t-shirt and prizes will be awarded throughout the game. Club 44 will be open for all fans.
Â
The Orange have a 14-3 record, including a 9-0 record in the Carrier Dome and a 2-2 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Syracuse, which has advanced to six NCAA Tournaments, including the 2016 NCAA Championship game, under the direction of head coach Quentin Hillsman, features three players averaging in double-figures scoring. The reigning Naismith National Player of the Week and two-time ACC Player of the Week Tiana Mangakahia leads Syracuse in scoring with 17.8 points per game and is the best in the nation with 10.4 assists per contest, while junior Miranda Drummond is scoring 17.5 points per outing. Sophomore Gabrielle Cooper is adding 10.8 ppg.
