Battle Sets Career-High in Double-OT Loss to FSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sophomore Tyus Battle scored a career-high 37 points to lead Syracuse (12-6, 1-4 ACC) in a 101-90 double-overtime loss at No. 23/rv Florida State (13-4, 2-3 ACC) Saturday afternoon in the Donald Tucker Center. The Orange overcame a 10-point second-half deficit to force overtime.
Freshman Oshae Brissett finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, junior Frank Howard totaled 13 points with five assists and junior Paschal Chukwu recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Seminoles won for the 28th time in the last 29 dates at the Tucker Center. Braian Angola led the Seminoles with 24 points and eight assists. Christ Koumadje added 23 points and eight boards.
How it was Decided
An 11-2 run to start the second overtime period, which featured five points from Angola, gave Florida State a 93-84 lead. Syracuse was unable to trim the deficit any lower than seven.
Game Summary
Florida State used a 7-0 run to take a 9-5 lead. Brissett hit a 3-pointer to trim the Syracuse deficit to one but the Seminoles used six straight points to take a 20-13 advantage with 5:05 to play.
Brissett made a layup and Chukwu dunked to pull the Orange back within three. A 7-0 run gave Florida State a 31-21 lead at halftime.
With the Seminoles up nine early in the second half, Syracuse used a 10-0 run to go in front. Battle made three free throws along with a 3-pointer, Howard made a layup and Brissett knocked down two shots from the charity stripe.

Battle hit two different go-ahead jumpers but the Seminoles leveled up the score each time, including a game-tying jumper with 16 seconds remaining.

Battle pushed Syracuse ahead again with a jumper with 48 seconds remaining. The Seminoles countered with a Trent Forrest bucket at the 25-second mark. The Orange owned the last possession and Brissett's 3-point attempt with seven-seconds on the clock missed the mark.

Battle was the only participant to log all 50 minutes of play in the game. Brissett played 46 of the 50 minutes for the Orange.
Florida State shot 40.2 percent (33-of-82) from the field, while Syracuse made 38.8 percent (26-of-67) of its shots. The Seminoles held a 50-43 advantage on the glass.
Battle's scoring output eclipsed his previous career high of 29 points at Georgetown earlier this season. He finished the game 11-of-27 from the field, 5-of-9 from 3-point range and 10-of-13 from the free throw line.
Howard Washington made a valuable contribution off the bench for the Orange. He logged a career-high 24 minutes and scored a personal-best nine points.
