Syracuse head men's soccer coach Ian McIntyre has announced that Severin Soerlie (Filtvet, Norway) and Ryan Raposo (Hamilton, Ontario) have joined the program. Both are on campus and will participate in spring practice.
Â
Soerlie transfers from Gardner-Webb University after scoring 14 goals and recording 11 assists in the last two years. His 11 goals and seven assists in 2017 earned him All-Big South Conference honors. In addition, he was selected to the Collegesoccernews.com National Team of the Week on September 25 after recording two goals and an assist against Furman. Prior to Gardner-Webb, Soerlie developed within the elite Stromsgodset youth academy (Norway) during which time he captained the team.
Â
"Severin has the technical ability, creativity and drive to make an immediate impact here at Syracuse University," McIntyre said. "He is an intelligent, dynamic player with the ability to both score goals and deliver the important final pass. We look forward to quickly integrating Severin into our team."
Â
Raposo most recently captained the Ontario Provincial team to the 2017 Canada Games gold medal and was recognized as the tournament MVP. A former member of the U15 Canadian National team, he plays for Vaughan Soccer Club under the guidance of Coach Patrice Gheisar.
Â
"Ryan is an athletic, technical player who combines extremely well with teammates in the attacking third," McIntyre said. "He is a talented young man with an outstanding work ethic and he possesses a contagious energy that I love in players. I am really looking forward to working with Ryan this spring and watching his continued development here at Syracuse.
Â
"I am delighted to welcome two outstanding young men into our program. It is always a real advantage to have student-athletes join your program for the spring campaign. Ryan and Severin are anxious to get started as we prepare for an exciting 2018."
