SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Incoming Syracuse University freshman Emily Engstler will participate in the 17th annual McDonald's All American Game on March 28 in Atlanta. The 6-foot-2 forward and guard from St. Francis Prep High School in New York City signed with the Orange last November.
"Emily is an explosive offensive player who has the ability to be a triple threat from all spots on the floor," head coach Quentin Hillsman said. "She has a unique skill set that allows her to play and guard multiple positions. She's a star!"
Engstler is on the East Team for the game, which will be played at Atlanta's Philips Arena. Game time is set for 5 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPN2. The teams were selected from more than 700 nominees by the McDonald's All American Games selection committee, led by Morgan Wootten, committee chairperson and legendary Hall of Fame Basketball Coach.
A five-star recruit who earned a scout grade of 98, Engstler is the 11th ranked recruit in the nation by both ESPNW HoopGurlz and Bluestar Basketball Report. As a junior, Engstler averaged 19.0 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 5.9 blocks per game. She posted a career-high 33 points against Archbishop Molloy and recorded a quadruple double against Nazareth Regional (27 points, 29 rebounds, 11 assists and 10 blocks).
She is one of four future Atlantic Coast Conference players on the East Team and seven total in the game, tying the ACC with the Big 12 for most selections.
Engstler becomes the program's fifth McDonald's All America selection, all of whom have been recruited by Hillsman. She joins former Orange Juanita Ward ('05), Erica Morrow ('07), Brianna Butler ('12) and Brittney Sykes ('12).
