Sidibe's Career Day Leads 'Cuse Past Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Freshman Bourama Sidibe totaled career-highs of 18 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks to lead Syracuse (15-6, 4-4 ACC) past Pittsburgh (8-14, 0-9 ACC), 60-55, Saturday afternoon in the Petersen Events Center. The victory was Syracuse's third straight and its first ACC road win of the campaign.
Sophomore Tyus Battle added 14 points with five boards, freshman Oshae Brissett finished with nine points and eight rebounds and freshman Marek Dolezaj recorded seven points and five rebounds in his first career start.
How it was Decided
Battle hit a 3-pointer and Sidibe made a layup to give Syracuse a 52-43 lead with 2:35 remaining. Pittsburgh was unable to trim its deficit any lower than five over the remainder of regulation.
Game Summary
Jared Wilson-Frame made his first five field goals, with two coming from behind the arc, and Pittsburgh established 14-6 lead. Battle hit a jumper along with a Sidibe layup to pull Syracuse within four and a Wilson-Frame free throw gave the Panthers a 15-7 advantage.
Battle scored five-straight points and Frank Howard added two shots from the charity stripe put the Orange in front 17-15. A Pitt layup evened the game at 17 but Syracuse regained the lead with three free throws and a Dolezaj layup. A Panther 3-pointer as time expired trimmed the Orange lead to two at halftime.
Two Marcus Carr free throws tied the game at 28. Dolezaj hit two foul shots to regain the lead but Pittsburgh answered with a 3-pointer to go in front by one. Layups from Sidibe and Howard gave the Orange a 34-31 lead but Carr answered with a trey to tie the game at 34 with 12:01 remaining.
A 7-0 run put Syracuse in front, 47-40, with 6:47 to play. Brissett scored a tip-in and added a 3-pointer along with a Sidibe layup. The Panthers hit a 3-pointer to pull back within four.

The Orange held the Panthers to 27.7 percent (18-of-65) shooting from the field. Syracuse also limited Pittsburgh to 27.7 percent (9-of-34) from 3-point range and held large advantages in bench points (22-8) and points in the paint (30-14).
Syracuse shot 48.1 percent in the second half and finished the game 19-of-54 from the field (35.2 percent).
Sidibe entered Saturday's game averaging 2.8 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. His stat-line surpassed his previous career-marks of 11 points against Texas Southern, seven rebounds versus Toledo and two blocks against three different opponents earlier this season.
Wilson-Frame and Carr led Pittsburgh with 18 and 16 points, respectively. Both Panthers recorded double-doubles as Wilson-Frame grabbed 13 boards and Carr dished out 12 assists.
