'Cuse Hosts Columbia for Sunday Meeting

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange carry a two-match winning streak into Sunday's clash with Columbia at Drumlins Country Club. First serve is set for 11 a.m., leading off with the doubles round, followed by the singles portion of the match.
Last Time Out
The Syracuse women's tennis team continued its winning ways with a 7-0 sweep of Colgate on Jan. 26. Friday's victory marked the second consecutive sweep for the Orange and the first back-to-back 7-0 wins for Syracuse since the 2009 season.
Syracuse rocked the doubles portion of the event, tallying a win in all three matches. The No. 1 singles (Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez) and the No. 2 singles (Maria Tritou and Dina Hegab) each recorded 6-0 wins in the doubles round. The third duo of Libi Mesh and Sofya Golubovskaya capped the Syracuse doubles victory with a 6-1 defeat of Colgate.
Knutson kicked off the match at No. 1 singles, defeating Colgate's Mackenzie Deeter in decisive fashion, 6-1, 6-0. Ramirez finished her singles match with a 6-0, 6-1 while the No. 3, 5 and 6 singles of Tritou, Hegab and Mitchell, respectively, all recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories. Mesh closed out the Orange's sweep with a 6-0, 6-3 two-set win.
Scouting the Raiders
Like Syracuse, the Lions have started the season with a pair of 7-0 victories, both wins coming on Friday, Jan. 26 in a double header against Rhode Island and St. Peter's. Junior Andrea Kevakian has won nine consecutive singles matches, dating back to a 10-2 record in the fall season.
