1/27/2018 7:30:00 PM | Ice Hockey
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange dropped game two of the series finale against Mercyhurst, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at Tennity Ice Pavilion to split the two-game series. Syracuse sits in third in the College Hockey America Standings, four points behind co-leaders Mercyhurst and Robert Morris.
"We had a chance, going into today, to take those two points and potentially end up in a three-way tie for first place," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "Mercyhurst just showed us the difference between first place and third. They had a strong effort in all areas of the game right from the get go. Abbey Miller played really well or it would have been 10-0."
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
The Lakers came out firing in the first period, putting 17 shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of action. Stellar netminding by senior Abbey Miller kept the game at 1-0 heading into the final frame of the game.
Vilma Tanskanen made it 2-0 for Mercyhurst with her second goal of the game just 52 seconds into the third period. The junior capped the victory for the Lakers with her third goal late in the third frame, completing the hat trick.
OF NOTE
Miller tied her career-high in saves with 38 against the Lakers. Fifteen of the 38 saves were while the Orange were on the penalty kill.
UP NEXT
The hit the road to take on reigning National Champion Clarkson in a midweek matchup on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
