'Cuse, Clarkson Collide on Tuesday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange are making the trip to Potsdam, N.Y. to take on reigning National Champion Clarkson, Tuesday at 7 p.m. Syracuse is seeking revenge after dropping a game, 5-0, earlier this season to the Golden Knights.

LAST TIME OUT
The Orange hosted Mercyhurst for a two-game series, emerging with a split decision, 1-1, against the Lakers. Syracuse came out electric in game one, pinning four goals on Mercyhurst, with three two-point games by Alysha Burriss (1g, 1a), Stephanie Grossi (1g, 1a) and Jessica DiGirolamo (2a).

Game two fell in favor of the Lakers as Mercyhurst outshot the Orange 42-22. Despite the four-goal outcome, senior Abbey Miller stood on her head between the pipes, tying her career-high with 48 saves in the contest. Mercyhurst's Vilma Tanskanen tallied a hat trick in game two.
SCOUTING THE LAKERS
Clarkson is the reigning National Champion, going undefeated in its final 16 games of the season to streak all the to the Frozen Four Finals. The team topped Wisconsin, 3-0 in the Finals to take home the National Championship for the second time in program history (2014). The Golden Knights have carried their momentum from the previous year into the 2017-18 season, posting a 23-3-1 record thus far in the year.

Averaging 4.19 goals per game, Clarkson is outscoring opponents 113-37 on the season with 25 power play scores. Junior Loren Gabel leads the Golden Knights with 53 points (25g, 28ga). Shea Tiley takes up residence between the pipes for the Golden Knights, posting a .934 save percentage with eight shutouts this season, good for second in the nation.
SERIES HISTORY
The Orange and the Golden Knights have butted heads 15 times in Syracuse's 10-year history with Clarkson holding the 13-1-1 edge over the Orange. The only win for Syracuse came in 2010 when the Orange hung a 3-1 loss on the Golden Knights in Potsdam. 'Cuse forward Isabel Menard tallied an assist on all three Orange goals in the game.

Most recently, Syracuse hosted Clarkson for the first of a spread out home-and-home series, falling to the Golden Knights, 5-0, at Tennity. Burriss has had the most success against the Golden Knights, tallying a goal and two assists when playing Clarkson. Senior Megan Quinn has a goal and an assist of her own, while Grossi and Allie Munroe have two and one assists, respectively.
GOING DOWN IN HISTORY
Grossi currently holds the program record for career assists with 68. She is just two points away (111) from taking over the top spot for career points, held by Melissa Piacentini (112). Her two-point outing against Mercyhurst pulled her to within two of Piacentini, and broadened the gap for career assists.

With a goal and an assist against Mercyhurst, Burriss is also climbing the Orange all-time ledger for career points and goals, coming in at sixth (82) and fifth (38), respectively. The assist against Mercyhurst moved her into the top 10 for career assists in program history, tying her with Nicole Ferrera at 44.

The Orange have a weekend off before hitting the road to take on in-state rival Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. on Feb. 6.
