Late 'Cuse Rally Falls Short at GT

ATLANTA, Ga. – Sophomore Tyus Battle scored 19 points and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds to lead Syracuse (15-7, 4-5 ACC) in a 55-51 loss to Georgia Tech (11-11, 4-5 ACC) Wednesday night at McCamish Pavilion.
Freshman Oshae Brissett and junior Frank Howard finished with 11 points each. Brissett added eight boards.
Josh Okogie led the Yellow Jackets with 20 points and six rebounds. Ben Lammers recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.
How it was Decided
Lammers made a put-back layup and Okogie dunked on the following possession to give Georgia Tech a 55-48 lead with 42 seconds remaining. Howard drained a 3-pointer to pull Syracuse within four but the Orange were unable to pull any closer.
Game Summary
An 8-0 run gave Georgia Tech an early 14-5 lead. Howard hit a jumper, Battle added a 3-pointer and a Syracuse free throw pulled the Orange within six with 7:46 to go in the first half.
Brissett converted a 3-point play and the teams traded 3-pointers to close the half. Syracuse trailed 24-21 at the break.
Four straight points from Battle pulled the Orange within two, but Georgia Tech answered with a 5-0 run. Back-to-back layups from Tadric Jackson extended the Yellow Jackets' lead to nine with 9:39 to play. Bourama Sidibe made two free throws along with back-to-back dunks from Marek Dolezaj and Brissett and Syracuse trailed 38-35.
A 6-2 run extended the Georgia Tech lead to eight with 2:46 remaining. Battle drained a trey and hit two free throws to pull the Orange back within three.
Numbers of Note
Syracuse shot 15-of-50 (30.0 percent) from the field, which ties a season-low. The Orange also shot .300 from the floor against St. Bonaventure. Georgia Tech made 21-of-63 shots (33.3 percent) from the field and outscored Syracuse 30-10 in the paint.
The Orange held a 40-38 advantage in rebounds, but the Yellow Jackets held a 13-10 advantage on the offensive glass and a 9-3 standing in steals.
Jackson finished with 15 points for the Yellow Jackets and shot 7-of-12 from the field. He added four rebounds and three assists.
