SYRACUSE, N.Y. -Â The Orange open the second half of the 2017-18 season on the road for two-game set with CHA foe Robert Morris on Jan. 5 and 6. Syracuse looks to rebound after dropping the final series of the 2017 calendar year, 2-0, to Mercyhurst.
Â
Last Time Out
The Orange visited Mercyhurst for a two-game series almost a month ago to the day. It was all Lakers in game one as the Orange struggled to put shuts on net, tallying just 21 shots in the game. A bright spot in the contest was the Syracuse defense, who blocked 10 shots, marking the eighth time this season that the Orange have recorded double-digit blocks in a game.
Â
Freshman Victoria Klimek notched the lone goals for 'Cuse in each game, her fifth and sixth goals of the year. She ranks tied for first on the Orange in goals scored with Kelli Rowswell and Lindsay Eastwood who also have six goals this season. Senior Abbey Miller started in net for the Orange, posting 34 saves in game two, her sixth 30-plus saves outing this season.
Â
Series History
The Orange and the Colonials have some unfinished business as this weekend's series is a rematch of the CHA Finals a season ago, when Robert Morris came out on top 2-0. Syracuse and Robert Morris have faced off 37 times in Syracuse's 10-year program history with the Orange holding the 15-13-9 edge in the all-time series. Syracuse is 6-5-7 when playing in Moon Township.
Â
Twenty four of the 37 games played between the two schools have been decided by one goal or less, while the largest margin of victory for either team came on Feb. 12, 2016 when the Orange emerged victorious, 6-1, over the Colonials.
Â
Scouting the Colonials
Robert Morris sits at 11-3-3 on the season with a 5-1-2 record in conference play. The Colonials come in at ninth in the USCHO.com Poll and have been ranked in eight consecutive polls. The team's only losses this season have come to No. 5 Ohio State, conference foe MErcyhurst and an early season defeat to Maine.
Â
Averaging 3.71 goals per game, Robert Morris ranks fifth in the nation in scoring offense. Redshirt junior Brittany Howard paces the Colonials, averaging 1.00 goals per game and has tallied three short-handed goals this season, good for first in the nation.
