SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse ice hockey team visits St. Charles, Missouri for its final road series of the season, taking on Lindenwood for a crucial four points in conference play.
ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
The Orange completed the season sweep of RIT with a pair of dominant victories over the Tigers last weekend. It was a series for the record books as Syracuse tallied many career and program firsts.
113 – Senior Stephanie Grossi tallied an assist in game two of the series to move into first place for career points in Syracuse program history. The moment was made extra special because the record was previously held by Melissa Piacentini, who is a current assistant coach at RIT.
38 – Freshman Edith D'Astous-Moreau made a career-high 38 saves en route to her first collegiate shutout in game two against the Tigers.
13 – Syracuse's 13 goals were the most goals in a two-game series since the 2008-09 season when the Orange pinned 17 goals (10-0, 7-3) on Sacred Heart.
3 – Three Orange tallied their first career goals in the series, sophomore Allie Olnowich and freshmen Ronnie Callahan and Taylor Curtis. Curtis also notched her first collegiate assist in the series, as well.
SCOUTING THE LIONS
Lindenwood sits at 8-17-1 overall with 6-10-0 record in conference play. The Lions rank fifth in the CHA and ride a two-game losing streak into this weekend's series. Lindenwood is led in points by Taylor Girard (21) at twelve goals and nine assists. Courtney Ganske leads the team in assists this season with a total of 17.
Opponents are outscoring Lindenwood 79-54 this season and the Lions average 2.1 goals a game with 20.3 shots per game. Jolene DeBruyn has started 23 games this season in goal for the Lions tallying 694 saves and one shut out. The last win for the Lions came on Jan. 27 when Lindenwood defeated RIT 3-1.
SERIES HISTORY
The Orange and the Lions have met a total of 26 times in program history with Syracuse holding the 20-4-2 series advantage. During the 2016-17 season, Syracuse won all four games against the Lions by three or more goals and all four contests were shutout victories.
The two teams last met in December for the first two-game series of the season. The programs split the series with Syracuse taking the first game, 4-1, while Lindenwood came out on top in game two, 2-0. In the last eight meetings between the teams, the Orange have outscored the Lions 30-3.
Seniors Stephanie Grossi and Alysha Burriss have found particular success against the Lions in their four-year career with the Orange. Grossi has posted 16 career points (8g, 8a) against Lindenwood while Burriss has three goals and eight assists of her own.
