Orange Renew In-State Rivalry with Cornell

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse ice hockey team wraps up its non-conference schedule with a trip down I-81 to take on in-state rival, No. 6 Cornell on Tuesday night. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Orange fell short, 4-1, on the road to reigning National Champion No. 2 Clarkson last week. The Golden Knights jumped out to an early two-goal lead in the first period but the Orange outshot Clarkson, 9-16, through the first two frames to stay in the game. Senior netminder Abbey Miller record 30 saves between the pipes for the Orange, while captain Stephanie Grossi tallied the Orange's only goal of the game.

SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell sits at 14-7-3 overall with a 3-2-1 record in non-conference action. The Big Red come in at No. 6 in the USCHO.com poll, having made an appearance in the top 10 for 15 consecutive weeks. The Big Red have faced six ranked opponents this season with a record of 5-5 against those teams.

As a team, Cornell has averaged 27.6 shots per game and 2.7 goals scored per game this year. Freshman Madlynne Mills leads the team in goals with 14 so far this season while sophomore Kristin O'Neill tops the list in points, in addition to tallying the most assists (18). Marlene Boissonnault has suited up in goal for Cornell in 22 games this season, maintaining a save percentage of .916.

SERIES HISTORY
The Orange and the Big Red's in-state rivalry dates back to 2010 as the teams have met 10 times before in program history. Cornell has come out on top in nine of the 10 outings, including earlier this season when the Big Red topped the Orange 6-3 at Tennity.

The Orange have pinned at least two goals on the Big Red in eight of the 10 meetings. Grossi has found marked success against Cornell, notching four assists and a goal in four games played against the Big Red.

GOING DOWN IN HISTORY
Grossi currently holds the program record for career assists with 68. She is just one point away (112) from taking over the top spot for career points, currently sitting tied with Melissa Piacentini at the top.

With an assist against Clarkson, Alysha Burriss is also climbing the Orange all-time ledger for career points and goals, coming in at sixth (83) and fifth (38), respectively. The assist against Clarkson moved her into the top 10 for career assists in program history, tying her with Margo Scharfe and Julie Rising at 45.

The Orange return to Tennity for the first game in a home-and-home with RIT on Friday, Feb. 9. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
