SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The #8/8 Syracuse women's lacrosse team (4-1) used scoring from eight different players and a strong second half to defeat #3/4 Florida (4-2), 17-15, in a Wednesday afternoon matinee at the Carrier Dome.
Â
Nicole Levy scored four times, while Riley Donahue, Taylor Gait and Sam Swart each recorded hat tricks for the Orange in the victory. Asa Goldstock was strong in net as well, stopping 14 Florida shots on the afternoon, as 'Cuse rolled to the win.
How it was Decided
After a back-and-forth first half and the Gators striking first out of the locker room, the game was knotted at 9-9 in the first minute of the second half. From that point forward it was all Syracuse. The Orange went on a 7-0 run to pull away from Florida before the Gators again found the back of the net.
Â
Florida slowly clawed their way back to tighten the score but didn't get within two until the final minute of action. The win was the first ranked win of the season for 'Cuse, in a contest that neither team led by more than two for the first-30 minutes.
Of Note
It's the second time this season that the Orange had four players record hat tricks. Vanessa Costantino, Levy, Neena Merola and Emily Haryschuk all scored three or more goals in the season opener against UConn. Syracuse has scored 16-or-more goals in every game this season. The Orange haven't had a streak of five-straight games with 16-or-more goals since doing so in five-straight games in the 2012 season.
