
Shemanova Named to Preseason All-ACC Team

SHEMANOVA NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-ACC TEAM
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 2018 ACC Freshman of the Year Polina Shemanova has been named to the Preseason All-ACC Volleyball team. She is one of 18 players from 12 different schools named to the list and one of five rising sophomores.
Shemanova was tabbed a member of the All-ACC First Team, AVCA All-Region and All-ACC Academic Team. In addition, she was named AVCA East Region Freshman of the Year, and an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American following her rookie season. Her 447 kills were the most ever by a Syracuse freshman and ninth all-time. Her 4.22 kills per set and 4.63 points per set were both second in the conference. She notched double-digit kills in 26 of 28 matches, reached 20+ kills in nine matches and recorded 15 double-doubles. She also led the Orange in digs with 282.
In 2018 the Orange earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history and won their first-round match against Yale, 3-0, before losing to Penn State in the second round. 'Cuse ended the season fourth in the ACC standings with a 19-9 overall record and a 14-4 record in conference play.
The 2019 Preseason Coaches Poll has Syracuse picked to finish sixth in the ACC, trailing fifth place by only two points. Pittsburgh is projected to repeat as conference champions with 13 first-place votes, while Florida State had the other two first-place votes.
The Orange open the 2019 season on the road in Wisconsin, taking on Baylor on September 5 before facing Marquette on September 7. ACC play gets underway on September 27 at Georgia Tech.
