Jake's Take: 2003 Football Ticket Sales

The number of individual-game tickets for each contest depends on a number of factors, including season-ticket sales, Syracuse University department requests, marketing and sponsorship packages, SU student-athletes and recruiting, and the allotment for the visiting team. Based on figures from 2002, these groups accounted for approximately 37,000 tickets.
If the 2002 figures remain the same, that will leave us with as many as 12,000 individual game tickets available for each home contest in 2003. However, history tells us that this figure may be overstated. In years when teams such as Penn State, Nebraska, Michigan or Florida have been on our home schedule, season-ticket sales have spiked upward. In 2003, it's Notre Dame. Therefore, the only way we can guarantee a seat for the SU-Notre Dame game at this time is with a season ticket.
In the past, SU season ticket holders have been given the first opportunity to purchase individual-game tickets as they renew. That policy will remain in effect for 2003, with the exception of the Notre Dame game. Through the renewal process, Ernie Davis Football Fund members and season-ticket holders may indicate their interest in purchasing tickets for that game if they become available. Priority will be based on Orange Pack points, consistent with our policy for special athletics events, such as bowl games and NCAA tournaments.
The cost for the seven-game 2003 season ticket is $185 for adults, $80.00 for SU students and youth, and $148 for SU faculty and staff. In addition, the upper end zone discounted season ticket will be offered for the second year in a row. The cost for 2003 is $150. The across-the-board increase in price reflects the seven Division I-A home games on the schedule and the significantly reduced ticket price as a result of our Division I-AA opponent in 2002.
The benefits of season tickets are many, including:
- A savings of $33 over the cost of single-game tickets for adults, $26 for SU students and youth, and $37 for SU faculty and staff.
- A VIP Season Ticket card for every ticket purchased.
The VIP Season Ticket card provides preferred customer discounts to 12 area businesses. - The opportunity to purchase half-price adult and youth individual game tickets for the Louisville and West Virginia games up until the season ticket renewal deadline, as part of our season ticket holder appreciation.
- Same seat guaranteed for all seven games.
- Priority opportunity to purchase individual home and away game tickets, and individual game packages prior to public sale, as available.
Renewal forms for 2003 season tickets will be mailed in early April, 2003. The deadline for renewals is May 28. New 2003 adult and youth season tickets will be available for public sale starting in late February. The public sale will continue through SU's first home game, against Louisville on September 13. The sale of individual game tickets, with the exception of the Notre Dame game, will begin on Saturday, August 9, 2003.

The Carrier Dome is one of the best places in the nation to watch a college football game. The installation of two video boards during the summer of 2003 will make it even better. We hope to see you there throughout the football season.
