Maryland Student-Athlete Quotes
Syracuse Football vs. Maryland
Maryland Student Athlete Quotes
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, N.Y.
Sept. 20, 2014
C.J. Brown, Quarterback, Redshirt Senior
On the win in general:
“It was a great team win today. We came out fast on offense and tried to put pressure on. We scored on our first two drives. Unfortunately in the second half, we started strong, but we didn’t finish strong.”
On whether he was more comfortable today:
“Yeah. Each and every week I’m getting more comfortable. I’m just trying to move the offense down the field and win. We protected the ball today, didn’t have any turnovers so that was good. We went out there and put up points. So, it was a good win.
On Syracuse being an aggressive team:
“We knew they were going to bring a lot of pressure, just like they did in the second half. I had to sit in there and deliver the throws. But we knew they were going to bring pressure. We spotted their blitz and we exploited that in the beginning.”
William Likely, Defensive back, Sophomore
On the interception:
“Coach called a great play. He told me to make a play on it. Once I saw two go up the field I had to squeeze one, and that’s what I did. I was shocked, but I just saw the green grass.”
On Syracuse keeping the ball away from him on the punts and if he tried to get it another way:
“Most definitely. When you’re on the field, you’re always trying to do something for the team. They did a good job of not punting the ball to me. They had some great kicks.”
On needing this win after last week’s loss:
“You always need a win. It doesn’t matter how much we need it. We play to win. It doesn’t matter who we play, we just want to win.”
Andre Monroe, Defensive Lineman, Senior
On his performance:
“I feel very excited. I did whatever I could to help make the team win. I can’t explain it, it just felt good.”
On the team’s performance:
“I think that everyone did a good job of stepping up, filling in, paying attention and doing the things we needed to do to win.”
On Will’s (Likely) interception:
“It was a huge play. Turnovers are always huge. Turnovers are always a game-changer.”?
