Taylor Bennett | Soccer | Recorded seven points as a true freshman and started every game for the Orange this season. |
Gabby Cooper | Basketball | An ACC All-Freshman Team honoree, Cooper set the Syracuse single-season record for 3-pointers made. She also matched the program single-game 3-point field goals made record. |
Madeleine Davison | Cross Country | Was Syracuse's top finisher in the first three meets of 2016, including winning the Harry Lang Invitational during her collegiate debut and a 10th-place finish at the Panorama Farms Invitational. |
Miranda Ramirez | Tennis | Played 10 matches at No. 1 singles this season and finished her rookie campaign at 15-6 overall, including a run of 12-straight wins. |
Savannah Rennie | Hockey | CHA All-Rookie Team honoree, after finishing third in the conference in freshman scoring. |
Morgan Widner | Lacrosse | Ranks seventh in the NCAA in draw controls per game and currently ranks third on Syracuse's single-season record list for draw controls. |
MALE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Mo Adams | Soccer | All-South Region Second Team honoree, one of just three freshmen to earn All-South honors. He was also a member of the All-ACC Third Team and ACC All-Freshman team after his 19 starts as a rookie. |
Tyus Battle | Basketball | Played in all-34 games with 25 starts for the Orange, where he finished third on the team with over 11 points per game. He also sank 60 3-pointers, which was fourth in SU history for a rookie. |
Kendall Coleman | Football | Was the top-freshman tackler on the Orange with 29. He blocked the PAT in the Orange's upset of Virginia Tech and led the team with four QB pressures in 2016. |
Moe Neal | Football | Second on the Orange with 357 rushing yards on 68 carries with a pair of touchdowns. He also led the team with 5.2 yards per carry. |
Jamie Trimboli | Lacrosse | Has played in every game and started the last-seven games for the Orange, posting 10 goals. None bigger than his game-winner in overtime vs. Duke to seal the win. |
FEMALE PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR
Courtney Brosnan | Soccer | Brosnan made 15 saves vs. No. 2 Florida State to keep the Seminoles to just one goal and preserve a draw against the highest-ranked opponent the Orange would face. |
Emma Lamison | Field Hockey | Lamison played a role in the Orange's first-four goals during a 5-1 dominating performance over No. 2 Duke. Lamison recorded eight points in the first-27 minutes of the victory. Lamison earned national and ACC player of the week honors for the win. |
Sydney O'Hara | Softball | O'Hara tied an NCAA record with four home runs vs. NC State. She drove in eight runs in the process of setting this record, something only four other players have ever accomplished. |
Alexis Peterson |
Basketball | Peterson scored a personal-best 45 points, helping the Orange to their second ranked win of the season. It marked the most points scored in the history of the Carrier Dome, by a man or woman. |
Devon Parker | Lacrosse | Parker scored a career-high five goals, all in the second half, to lead Syracuse to a nine-goal comeback against Virginia. Parker was ACC, and U.S. Lacrosse Player of the Week following the win. |
Tia Thevenin | Track | Thevenin broke a 15-year old record in the 60-meter hurdles, which was previously held by Syracuse strength and conditioning coach Veronica Tearney.Thevenin broke her own record later in the season, which now stands at 8.21 seconds. |
Maria Tritou | Tennis | Tritou bounced back from dropping the first set to win the final two in what was the deciding match vs. Clemson in a match the Orange would win 4-3. Tritou's match eventually went to a tiebreak, which Tritou controlled. |
MALE PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR
Sergio Camargo | Soccer | Camargo played a part in all three of Syracuse's goals in its 3-0 win against Dartmouth in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He assisted on the first goal of the game and then scored twice for a career-high five points. His performance helped send the Orange to the NCAA Tournament Third Round for the third consecutive year. |
Freddie Crittenden III | Track | For the second-straight season, Crittenden III was the NCAA runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles. He crossed the line in 7.67 seconds to earn runner-up accolades. |
Amba Etta-Tawo | Football | Tallied 12 receptions and set the SU single-game record with 270 yards receiving and two touchdowns at Connecticut. His yardage total was the top single-game figure in the ACC in 2016 and eclipsed Scott Schwedes' previous SU record of 249 yards against Boston College in 1985, a mark that stood for more than 30 years. |
John Gillon | Basketball | He scored 43 points and helped Syracuse overcome a 16-point, second-half deficit to defeat host NC State in overtime, 100-93. In the comeback, he scored 20-straight Syracuse points to close out the second half, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer which sent the contest into an extra session. The 43 points represented the fourth-best scoring output by an SU player in program history and his nine 3-pointers tied the SU standard. He was 9-of-10 on 3-point attempts and 14-of-14 from the line. He added nine assists and four rebounds in 44 minutes. |
Justyn Knight | XC | Knight finished second at the NCAA Cross Country Championship, knocking off three-time defending NCAA Champion and most decorated athlete in NCAA history - Edward 'King Ches' Cheserek - in the process. Knight followed it up on the track with another runner-up performance in the 3000-meters at the NCAA Indoor Track Championship, being edged by Cheserek. |
Zack Mahoney | Football | Mahoney was responsible for a school-record seven touchdowns (5 passing, 2 rushing), eclipsing Jim Brown's previous record of six (all rushing). Mahoney's five touchdown passes equaled Ryan Nassib's school single-game record and his two rushing scores tied his personal best. Completed 70.5 percent of his passes against the Panthers, going 43-for-61 for 440 yards. Added 49 yards rushing to finish with 489 yards of offense. His number of completions, attempts, passing yards and yards of total offense all rank second on the SU single-game chart in their respective categories. |
First Varsity Eight |
Rowing | The Syracuse first varsity eight crew defeated No. 6 Boston University and No. 18 Columbia to retain the Conlan Cup for the first time since the 2012 campaign. It marked the second straight season that the Orange have defeated a top-10 opponent in regular-season action. It marks the highest ranked crew Syracuse has beat in the regular season under head coach Dave Reischman. |
PLAY OF THE YEAR
Men's Basketball | John Gillon | After a missed shot in the waning seconds of a tie game vs. Duke, Gillon drove up the floor and drained a deep 3-pointer as time expired to give the Orange a 78-75 victory over their ACC rival. |
Field Hockey | Lies Lagerweij | Driving to her left against No. 13 Boston University, Lagerweij stick-handled through a pair of Terrier defenders and struck a hard backhand shot while falling away. The shot rifled into the bottom corner of the cage for the eventual game-winning goal. |
Football | Dontae Strickland to Brisly Estime | Running back Dontae Strickland threw an 84-yard touchdown bomb to Brisly Estime on a halfback option vs. No. 17 Virginia Tech. It was the first play of the second quarter which sent the Orange out to a 14-3 lead. |
Hockey | Savannah Rennie | Rennie dangled through a pair of Penn State defenseman and beat the Nittany Lions goaltender top shelf to give Syracuse a 1-0 advantage against their conference rival. |
Men's Lacrosse | Brendan Bomberry | In the season opener vs. Siena, Brendan Bomberry snatched a rebound out of the air and quickly went behind his back for the score. The play was #6 in Sportscenter's top-10 plays and was the Inside Lacrosse Goal of the Week. |
Women's Lacrosse | Nicole Levy/Natalie Wallon | Levy faked a shot while simultaneously popping the ball to teammate Natalie Wallon, who dodged her defender and scored vs. Notre Dame |
Men's Soccer | Jonathan Hagman | Hagman scored his first-collegiate goal in the 105th minute to give Syracuse a 3-2 comeback victory against St. John's. After Miles Robinson threw the ball in, Johannes Pieles headed the ball to Hagman who delivered the score and 'Cuse victory. |

Men's Basketball | Syracuse 78, Duke 75 | John Gillion drained a buzzer-beating three pointer from the top of the key, which sent the nation's largest on-campus crowd of the 2016-17 season rushing onto the court after the Orange defeated No. 10/11 Duke. |
Field Hockey | Syracuse 5, Duke 1 | The then No. 4 Syracuse field hockey team welcomed the ACC's top-ranked team at the time to J.S. Coyne Stadium in then No. 2 Duke, blitzing the Blue Devils out of the gate to a dominating 5-1 win. 'Cuse led 4-0 after 27 minutes and Emma Lamison turned in a career-best eight point afternoon. |
Football | Syracuse 31, Virginia Tech 17 | Syracuse football picked up its first victory over a ranked opponent since 2012 in the win over #17 Virginia Tech which sent fans rushing onto the field. 'Cuse was led by Eric Dungey's 417 total yards, with Erv Philips and Brisly Estime each going over the century mark in receiving yards as well. |
Hockey | Syracuse 3, North Dakota 0 | For the first time since 2013, the Orange defeated a top-10 opponent away from Tennity Ice Pavilion, shutting out No. 7 North Dakota in Grand Forks. Heather Schwarz scored twice, while Lindsay Eastwood added another and Abbey Miller turned away all-19 shots she faced. |
Men's Lacrosse | Syracuse 12, Duke 11 | There have been lots of thrilling moments for the Syracuse men's lacrosse team this season, perhaps none bigger than when Nick Mariano knotted the game at 11 with 90 seconds to go and after Ben Williams won the overtime faceoff, Jamie Trimboli delivered the game-winner in overtime to down ACC rival Duke at the Dome. |
Women's Lacrosse | Syracuse 16, Virginia 15 | Trailing by nine at the half, the Syracuse women's lacrosse team came storming out of the locker room after halftime to out-score the Cavaliers 12-4 in the final 35 minutes. Riley Donahue delivered the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner with 4:06 to play. |
Men's Soccer | Syracuse 3, Dartmouth 0 | In a driving snowstorm, the Syracuse men's soccer team advanced to the NCAA Tournament's third round for the third-straight season after defeating Dartmouth 3-0. Senior Sergio Camargo scored twice and Hendrik Hilpert stopped all four shots sent on cage in the win. |
Women's Soccer | Syracuse 1, Florida State 1 | The Orange played to a draw with the top-ranked team on their 2016 schedule, No. 2 Florida State. The Orange got an early goal from Alex Lamontagne and Courtney Brosnan was stout in net to withstand the Seminole offense and allow 'Cuse to pick up points in conference play. |

Riley Donahue | Lacrosse | A Tewaaraton Award Semifinalist and Second Team All-ACC selection, Donahue currently leads the No. 9 Orange in every offensive statistical category. |
Stephanie Grossi | Hockey | A First Team All-CHA selection for the second-straight season, Grossi tied the program's assist record by a junior and enters her senior season ranked second in 'Cuse history in point and fourth in goals. She has now led the team in points during all-three seasons at SU. |
Sydney O'Hara | Softball | Leads the nation in batting average, on-base percentage and saves, highlighted by her four home run game at NC State. She's Syracuse's all-time leader in saves as of this season and ranks in the top-15 of six national categories. |
Alexis Peterson | Basketball | The fourth All-American in program history, she became the first Syracuse player to earn conference player of the year honors. Named a finalist for the 2017 Dawn Staley Award and Nancy Lieberman Award, she set the Syracuse single-season scoring and assists records and owns the Orange all-time helpers record. |
Hattie Taylor | Rowing | Trained with the Great Britain senior national team in January and has sat in the first varsity eight crew each of the past three seasons. She has helped the first varsity eight boat to three Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week accolades in 2017. |
Roos Weers | Field Hockey | An NFHCA First Team All-American, Weers was the team leader with 29 points and second on the team with 11 goals. She scored two game-winning goals and anchored a defense that finished in the top-10 nationally of every defensive statistic. |

Freddie Crittenden III | Track | ACC Champion in the 60-meter hurdles in an ACC meet record time, Crittenden was the NCAA runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles. A USTFCCCA First Team All-American in the 110-Meter Hurdles after last season's 'Cuse Awards, Crittenden is off to a fast start in 2017, setting the world's third fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles already this year. |
Amba Etta-Tawo | Football | Named to four All-America teams, Etta-Tawo was All-ACC First Team selection (Media, Coaches) and une of the 10 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award, presented to the nation's outstanding receiver. He was rated the 15th-best player in college football and No. 2 among receivers by ESPN . The transfer established SU single-season records for receptions (94), receiving yards (1,482) and receiving yards per game (123.5). |
Justyn Knight | Cross country/track | NCAA runner up in both cross country and the 3000-meters during indoor track, Knight won three ACC individual championships so far in 2016-17, was twice named ACC Performer of the Year for cross country and indoor track, and was the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships meet MVP. |
Nick Mariano | Lacrosse | A Tewaaraton Award semifinalist and All-ACC selection, Mariano currently leads the Orange with 46 points. He leads the team with 32 goals, including three game winners. |
Miles Robinson | Soccer | Selected second overall in the MLS SuperDraft, becoming the highest draft pick in program history. Was also named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Award and was an NSCAA First Team All-American and ACC Defensive Player of the Year. |
Sergio Salcido | Lacrosse | A Tewaaraton Award Semifinalist and All-ACC selection, Salcido currently has the third most assists in a single season by any Orange midfielder in program history. He leads the team with 30 helpers and is second on the Orange with 45 points. |
Andrew White III | Basketball | White was a Third-Team All-ACC selection and earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic Men's Basketball Team. He started all 34 games for Syracuse and led the team in scoring average (18.5), steals average (1.6) and minutes-played average (37.2). The grad transfer set a school single-season record for 3-pointers (112) and led the ACC in 3-point average (3.4) and minutes-played average (39.9) in league games. |
