Ben Olson, a graduate of Eastern Illinois University, is in his first season as a defensive graduate assistant for the Orange. Olson most recently served as a defensive graduate assistant for head coach Dino Babers at Bowling Green in 2014 and 2015.

Olson assisted in coaching the Bowling Green defensive line and was part of a staff that guided the Falcons to consecutive bowl games. He also worked with the special teams units.

An undergraduate student coach for Babers at Eastern Illinois, Olson coached the linebackers at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology during the 2013 season. Rose-Hulman captured the 2013 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championship and Olson mentored two All-HCAC linebackers while on the staff. He was also integral in coaching a kickoff coverage team that led all of Division III football in fewest yards per return.

In addition to his work with the varsity, Olson gained valuable experience as the defensive coordinator for the Rose-Hulman junior varsity team.

Olson, who played at Eastern Illinois in 2008, was a defensive lineman for the Panthers before being medically disqualified. He earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and sports studies from the school in 2013.
